Firefighters Save Unconscious Puppy Overcome By Smoke In Fire Thanks To New Procedure

We are lucky to live in a world where technology is evolving in ways that save human and animal lives. People like doctors, firefighters, and policemen are heroes with tough jobs on their hands, striving to save lives every day. From conducting surgeries that can take hours, to risking their own lives by running into burning buildings, their jobs are not easy. Luckily, the progression of technology is making their jobs just a little easier, and saving countless lives.

One example of this was recently put to the test in United Kingdom, where a specially-designed pet oxygen mask helped to save a puppy that became unconscious after being overwhelmed by smoke during a fire. Thanks to these masks, once the firefighters were able to pull the dog from the burning building, they had a much greater chance of saving the animal’s life. The licensor of the video explained, “Within days of the masks going into use, firefighters based at Billesley in Birmingham, UK used one to revive the puppy seen in the video, which was captured by firefighters on mobile phones and body-worn cameras. The animal had been overcome by smoke in a domestic fire.”

This new technology is becoming more common for firefighters to have on-hand. The video licensor explained, “West Midlands Fire Service is the second largest in the UK outside of London. Fire engines based at each of these thirty-eight fire stations now carry specially-designed oxygen masks to use on pets that have been overcome by the effects of smoke in a fire. There are three reusable masks in each kit, each of different sizes, several of which have been provided by public donation and in conjunction with the Smokey Paws charity.”

Hopefully we’ll be hearing more stories like this, now that this new procedure is being put into place at fire stations!
